- MONITOR CALIBRATION -

The following instructions will help you set your black level and brightness for best viewing on a CRT monitor.

If possible, make sure your room/ambient lighting is dimmer than your monitor.

Set your display color depth to the maximum setting.

Turn the monitor contrast control all the way up.

Now adjust the brightness to see as many distinct vertical bars as possible in the graphic below while keeping the surround black. Keep scrolling down for the next step.

Next, adjust the contrast back down so that the white in the graphic below is just bright enough to appear clean and white. If the white is set too bright it will reduce the appearance of highlight detail and cause eye strain. You should be able to see 10 or 11 horizontal bars in the graphic below. If you can see the 11th at the top, it should be barely visible.
